Every two years, the NGOs in Official Partnership with UNESCO are invited to come together and attend the International Conference of NGOs. Normally, this is a busy three days hosted at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, with hundreds of attendees representing NGOs from all over the world. In December 2020, we obviously had to adjust this format in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the meetings were held digitally, with only the outgoing Committee Members attending UNESCO in person.
The International Conference of NGOs is the opportunity to input on the Liaison Committee's work, its processes, approve reports and financial updates, hold the outgoing Committee to account for their actions (and congratulate them!), and to elect and then welcome a new NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee.
The International Conference of NGOs defines the objectives of the Liaison Committee and asks it to develop a fruitful partnership between NGOs having statutory relations with UNESCO, the Member States and the Secretariat, at the international, national and local levels, in accordance with the priorities and programmes of the Organization.
This page will be updated throughout the mandate of the Committee to ensure that all NGOs have as much advance warning of procedures and preparations for the next International Conference of NGOs as possible.
